In today’s post a wonderful recovery client Abby, shares her recovery playlist and discusses how music has supported her through the highs and lows of this journey.
“When you feel isolated, it is incredible how a song can speak to you and make you feel less alone (Sam Smith nails this!)”
My Recovery Playlist
Recovery can be a lonely place at times, with numerous highs and lows. More highs than lows, but it is certainly not a linear path! One of the tools that has helped me during this journey, boosted me after the lows and allowed me to celebrate the highs, has been music.
Over the past year, I have unconsciously created a playlist of what I now call my “Recovery Anthems”. These songs have helped me when I’ve felt the most isolated and have given me the boost I’ve needed in a low moment. There are also songs I’ve included that I put on when I want to dance or sing along as I am celebrate something I’ve achieved!
When you feel isolated, it is incredible how a song can speak to you and make you feel less alone (Sam Smith nails this!). Some songs are also perfect when you want to celebrate a recovery win!
Every time I hear a song that resonates with my recovery journey, I add it straight to my recovery playlist. I also thoroughly recommend starting the day with a shower singalong as it really helps me start the day right!
Below are 11 of my favourite recovery anthems that I think may resonate with some of you. Feel free to add any of them to your own recovery playlist, or you can find my full playlist linked below.
