Approaches to nutrition for eating disorder recovery can vary depending on the type and stage of the eating disorder. Additionally, different support options may provide various approaches. Typically, you will work with an eating disorder dietitian who will create a personalised meal plan and goals for your recovery.
Our Approach: Gentle Nutrition
At Natural Food Therapy, we believe in a gentle approach to nutrition that meets you where you are today. Instead of focusing on numbers or a rigid plan, we support you through step-by-step changes. Over the course of your programme, you will be guided through recovery, achieving long-lasting changes.
Our Ethos: Three Pillars
Our ethos involves empathy, education and empowerment.
Empathy
It saddens us to know that not all nutritional recovery approaches prioritise empathy and compassion. Empathy lies at the heart of our approach. You will never feel pressured or pushed too far too soon when working with us. We believe in working closely with you.
Education
Due to the abundance of misinformation regarding nutrition, it’s nearly impossible not to hold onto some misconceptions. Our mission is to equip you with the information required to nourish your body effectively. Enabling you to sustain a healthy and balanced life for years to come.
Empowerment
We understand that eating disorders can cause internal conflict, making it challenging to implement nutritional changes. We believe that encouragement and empowerment are essential to overcoming these obstacles. That’s why we offer continuous motivational support, empowering tools and exercises, and unwavering encouragement to help you along the way.
Multidisciplinary team vs. multidisciplinary specialist
Instead of seeing a multidisciplinary team who each supports you in different ways, we specialise in offering you one multidisciplinary specialist.
With regards to nutrition, your recovery specialist will work with you to:
- Develop a balanced, healthy and sustainable way to nourish your body.
- Incorporate a variety of foods and food groups into your diet.
- Overcome any fear foods and gradually find safety with them.
- Reconnect to your hunger and fullness cues.
- Embrace flexibility and spontaneity with your eating.
- Acquire tools to overcome challenging food patterns like binge eating or restriction.
- Overcome negative thoughts and emotions related to eating.
- Stop compensating for food eaten through over-exercising or purging.
- Make peace with food and find balance with your eating.
Options For Nutrition Support
We have two options for recovery support:
1) Our core online recovery programme, designed to support you all the way through recovery.
2) An in-person recovery day, including a full recovery plan and nutrition support.
